Canberra students release balloons for Japan

On Friday March 25 at 1:15pm, the Merici College community in Canberra reached out to their sister school, Seiwa College in Sasebo, north of Nagasaki, releasing 300 biodegradable balloons as a message of hope and renewal for Japan.

The release of the balloons concluded a week-long fundraiser at the college in an effort to raise money to help their sisters in Japan.

Activities included face painting, cup-cake stalls, calligraphy and karate demonstrations.

Since 1959, Merici has enjoyed a very close relationship with its sister-school Seiwa College.

One of the college houses at Merici has been named “Seiwa” in honour of the work carried out by the Good Samaritan Sisters in Japan.

Merici College works together with Seiwa College in Japan to celebrate their differences and diversity and exude a strong and loyal spirit.
