Centres of spirituality and hospitality

St Benedict says in his Rule that “all guests who present themselves are to be welcomed as Christ”. Hospitality – that wonderful virtue of welcoming all who come across our path – is a special focus in Good Sam life and ministry.

The Good Samaritan Sisters conduct three hospitality centres, all in New South Wales. These centres offer guests opportunity for prayer, spiritual nourishment, adult faith education or simply time and space to rest awhile.

The Centres are located at Pennant Hills, Glebe and Wentworth Falls.

Mount St Benedict Centre Pennant Hills NSW

An oasis in suburban Sydney, Mount St Benedict Centre is ideally situated for conferences and retreats. It is closely situated to the Archdiocese of Sydney and the Dioceses of Broken Bay and Parramatta.

Good Samaritan Congregational Centre Glebe NSW

The Good Samaritan Congregational Centre is situated in historic Toxteth House, built in 1829 for the colony’s first Solicitor General. A Good Samaritan community has lived here since 1901. Guests are welcome to share in the prayer of the community. Centrally located, the centre is five kilometres from Sydney’s CBD and 11 kilometres from Sydney’s domestic and international airports.

The centre has rooms for meetings, seminars and multimedia workshops for groups of up to 80 people. A chapel renowned for its beauty and acoustic excellence seats up to 200 and is suitable for liturgies, concerts and recordings, and weddings for relatives, ex-students and friends of the Good Sams.

Small group historical tours are available by arrangement. The guest wing has four single rooms with shared bathroom, kitchenette, sitting room with television. There is a self-contained twin unit with ensuite.

Maria Tal Cottages Wentworth Falls NSW

Beautiful Maria Tal Cottages are houses of hospitality and creativity. Situated on the edge of the National Park and overlooking the Valley of the Waters or the escarpment to Wentworth Falls, they offer an inspiring venue for rest, retreat and refreshment. Courses in creation spirituality and cosmology are a feature of the site.

The three houses – Maria Tal (accommodating 20 people), Maria Kinder (14 people) and The Barn (4 people) – are homely and comfortable, providing all facilities for self-catering. Guests are asked to bring their own food, sheets, towels and pillow case.
