The Sisters of the Good Samaritan offer you a simple reflection starter on a current book that reflects Good Samaritan Benedictine spirituality.

Each month we will offer some questions based on a chapter of the book. These questions may help you to reflect and pray. They can also be used for small group sharing. Currently it is:

St Benedict on the Freeway: A Rule of Life for the 21st Century by Corinne Ware, Abingdon Press, USA, 2001.

Chapter 3 – “The Sacramental Day”

The reflection starters below may help you plumb the depths of the text and explore more deeply what the text is saying to you in your daily life.

As you read chapter 3, ‘The Sacramental Day”, notice any words or phrases that connect with your experience, surprised you or raised a question for you?

  • In your “seeking a God-conscious life” (p.58) what are the challenges for you in the midst of your busy daily life?
  • How do you personally experience a “deeper awareness of God” (p. 60) in your daily life?
  • What helps you “to create for yourself a continuous and easy familiarity with the fact of God’s presence each day” (p. 62) in your life?
  • Is there anything you feel called to build into your life at the beginning of each day that might help you “to wake, to experience gratitude and to centre into a moment of interior quiet and ease with” (p.66)?
  • As you review this chapter, name something that you will try to take into your own life to enable you to become more God-connected. Write it and put it where becomes a daily moment of remembrance of God’s presence for you.
