Have you ever wanted to walk across the Sydney Harbour Bridge traffic-free? Now’s your chance. And you can also raise vital funds for the Good Sams Foundation.
To celebrate the 160th anniversary of the Good Samaritan Sisters (1857-2017), a group of Good Samaritan Oblates have formed a walking team in this year’s Blackmores Sydney Running Festival.
The Good Sams 160 Walkers have set themselves the goal of raising $16,000 for the Good Sams Foundation to support the ministries of the Good Samaritan Sisters in Australia, the Philippines and Kiribati.
Some of the ministries supported by the Good Sams Foundation are:
- The Good Samaritan Inn in Melbourne, which provides short-term emergency accommodation for women and children escaping domestic violence;
- Santa Teresa Aboriginal Mission near Alice Springs, which works with women to support and strengthen families;
- The Good Sams Foundation Scholarship Program, which helps students in need to complete their high school education;
- Good Samaritan Housing in Brisbane, which supports homeless mums and toddlers to move to independent living in the community;
- The Good Samaritan Early Childhood Learning Centre in Kiribati, which prepares pre-school aged children to begin their formal schooling;
- The Good Samaritan Kinder School in the Philippines, which prepares pre-school aged children for primary school;
- The Good Samaritan Community Outreach Centre in the Philippines, which supports women to provide for their families and a feeding program for children in one of the many slum areas in the Philippines.

Join the Good Sams 160 Walkers in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival on Sunday September 17, 2017. The team will be registered in the 3.5 kilometre Family Fun Run (wheelchair and pram friendly). To register for the event visit www.sydneyrunningfestival.com.au
