An invitation to Advent prayer and reflection

The season of Advent in Australia has a strong appeal. It has something to do with the warmth and light of the summer sun, the end of the civil year, the beginning of a new Church season, and the anticipation of Christmas as we celebrate CHRIST: Christ having come, Christ present with us and Christ coming at the end of time.

This Advent, everyone is invited to join in prayer and reflection through a special series of weekly videos produced by the Good Samaritan Foundation.

As we journey towards Christmas, the feast of the Incarnation, we light a candle on each of the four Sundays in Advent. On week 1, we begin by lighting the Candle of Justice, a beautiful and rich purple candle – a sign that we are called to act. Justice begins when we listen to the cry of the disadvantaged and respond with compassion, courage and commitment.

The Foundation’s Executive Director, Sonya Mears, said the videos were a true community collaboration with Good Samaritan Sisters Bernadette Corboy and Elizabeth Brennan; students from St Scholastica’s College and former principal Kate Rayment; Fran Vella, Good Samaritan Education Mission Program Coordinator; and Betty Harris, the Foundation’s Marketing and Communications Manager.

The videos will be released on each Sunday in Advent on the Good Samaritan Foundation’s website.

Week 1: 30 November – Justice
Week 2: 7 December – Repentance
Week 3: 14 December – Joy
Week 4: 21 December – Love
